<p>Myth: liposuction and tummy tucks are surgical procedures meant to aid in losing weight. Wrong! Fact: liposuction and tummy tucks are performed in order to contour the body into a more aesthetically pleasing shape.</p>
<p>In cases where the patient is obese, then the pounds of fat removed can be significant (in surplus of 30 pounds), but neither of these procedures should be pursued as a way to shed excess pounds. Again, these are NOT surgeries for losing weight, but they may be investigated after weight loss goals have been achieved in order to smooth the body&#8217;s curves and remove excess skin.</p>
<p>Myth: juice diets lasting 10 days or more are a great way to flush toxins out of the body and jumpstart weight loss. WRONG! Fact: juice diets can be extremely debilitating to your body and can even lead to permanent damage. There are health benefits to fasting on occasion, but your lack of food should not exceed 24 hours unless you have a doctor&#8217;s consent or recommendation.</p>
<p>What&#8217;s more, people who do juice diets cannot simply return to eating solid foods. They must carefully weigh everything and proceed to normal eating habits slowly or they will rapidly become ill. Juice diets can also compromise the immune system, leaving you more susceptible to infection, and that is all not to mention how much you will be nutritionally deficient as you deprive yourself of all kinds of vitamins and minerals.</p>
<p>Myth: weight loss is a simple equation of burning more calories than you take in. Wrong. Fact: losing weight is a little more complicated than that. Stress levels, metabolism, prescription medications, medical concerns, and nutrition levels all play subtle roles in our ability to lose extra pounds and maintain lost weight over a period of years.</p>
<p>That is why it is best to consult medical professionals to develop an approach that will work best for you. Your personal plan may require counseling in order to redefine your relationship with food and your ability to battle stress, which can cause the production of the hormone cortisol, which is often responsible for fat retention.</p>
<p>Fact: weight loss and fitness require dedication and patience. It may take awhile before you see the results you want, but if you persevere, you will come out on top!</p>
